In this video of the Atkins Diet Misconceptions series, I deal with the myth that Atkineers simply lose water weight. To some, the Atkins Diet is simply a trip to the sauna nothing more or less. (www.atkinsexposed.org As with any other “Big Lie,” it of coruse starts with the truth and departs rapidly from it. * www.mayoclinic.com * Composition of weight lost during short-term weight reduction. Metabolic responses of obese subjects to starvation and low-calorie ketogenic and nonketogenic diets. J. Clin. Invest. MU Yang, et al. During the first two weeks of the Atkins Diet Induction, the body consumes the remaining stored glucose (glycogen) in the muscles. This typically causes the Induction flu symptoms. However after that period of time, the low carb, high fat diet is responsible for greater weight loss of fat mass and greater prevention of muscle loss than any other diet. I have documented in prior videos the studies that have proven these facts. Here is just one article (Very-low-carbohydrate diets and preservation of muscle mass, Nutrition & Metabolism 2006, www.nutritionandmetabolism.com ) There is no way my 211 weight loss was simply 25.3 gallons of water weight loss. My Body Fat percent dropped 35 percent over the course, and my bench press amount increased 50 pounds. That is not simply water leaving the body.

@WhiteTreeProd “By nature are not designed to digest animal products”? You obviuolsy know very little about the crucial role meat has played in the evolution of man. I’d also be interested to see some citations on this “fact” from scientists (not nutritionists, not dieticians, not PETA, not even medical doctors, scientists).
Why are you waiting here online Russian woman gettop5.info
@alphacause There you go again talking rational and not getting overwrought and emotional about the Atkins Diet. Don’t you know that you only lose water on Atkins and your muscles are eaten away on the diet? You are left with simply a body of fat and bones. (sarcasm off)
Sometimes it is really easy to deal with the critics when their arguments are so shallow. Thanks for putting in your wise words.
The criticism of the Atkins diet merely causing someone to lose water weight doesn’t take into account that ANY DIET causes water to be purged from the system. That is why ever dietician or exercise expert will tell you that your largest weight loss generally happens in the first 1 or 2 weeks, and that you should not expect such weight loss rates to continue. So this is something that applies to all diet changes, whether Atkins or not.

@jleebesaw I hear you. That’s why I always take the criticism who have done “Atkins” or Atkins equivalent in the past. They largely don’t have a clue on what it actually is and have never read the book (any of them). There is no phase of the diet AT ANY TIME (1972 to today) that excluded all vegetables. That would of course force them to change their mind.
Congrats on your success!
i have been on atkins since march 11 2010. i have currenlty lost 54 lbs. i just went for my follow up dr. visit and found all of my risk factors for cardio problems and diebetes have dropped significantly. i have seen results on atkins after spending my whole life being miserable from failing on low fat diets. white tree prod should read the new diet revolution to see that the diet includes vegies and fruit in the maintenace phase. its not just meat.
@WhiteTreeProd Let’s see you had a negative reaction to the equivalent of an Atkins Diet. It wasn’t the Atkins Diet, and it probably wasn’t even done correctly.
Saturated fats in the absence of high sugar intake has no impact on cholesterol.
As you have failed to make a single post to progress the conversation, check out the videos on the topics, or even make a coherent post beyond bomb throwing, you can do it elsewhere.
Enjoy your raw food, and I’ll enjoy the lower cost for my meat.
@WhiteTreeProd I am not sure how clearer I can put this. His heart problems were due to a genetic problem and infection attacking his valve. He was a cardiologist and treated heart disease. No one outside the biased sources of PCRM have reported the above information, and when countless studies have shown the heart friendly nature of the diet. You are simply on the wrong side of science.

@bowulf Vegans very rarely have elevated cholesterol. I have been vegetarian and vegan for over 25 years and my cholesterol is perfect. I wrestled in high school and was on the equivalent of an Atkins diet to lose weight and yes it worked. I started getting heart murmurs in my mid-20s and the doctor told me to cut off on some of my meat intake. My family had a lot of diabetes and heart problems and also eat a lot of saturated fats. people by nature are not designed to digest animal products.
@bowulf the fact that bad cholesterol IS found in animal products ONLY is not faulty knowledge, its a FACT! I understand the science of the Atkins diet and I know how it works by starving the body. High fat diets have been proven over and over as main contributors to diabetes, cancer, heart disease, strokes, Alzheimer’s, mental illness and more. Atkins himself wrote in his book that his diet had no negative effects on hearts but after his death his records showed his history of heart problems.
@WhiteTreeProd The fact is you are basing your statements on faulty knowledge that has been proven wrong over and over in multiple studies and in my own experience. You are arguing a failed premise when everything you warn against actually IMPROVED after starting the Atkins Diet for me and countless others.
As for my acidic or alkalinity of my blood, the greatest contributor for acidic nature is grain, which is excluded. My blood tests at the same acidity as water.
@WhiteTreeProd Then explain vegans and vegetarians with high cholesterol or explain how when I increased my intake of animal products, my overall and LDL cholesterol both dropped over 50 points and my HDL (good) increased by nearly 20 points.
I have already said my artery walls are clean of arterial plaque, and multiple studies on ketogenic (high fat) have demonstrated the same.
I lost over 30 pounds in the first month eating great tasting healthy foods — why limit myself to only raw.
@bowulf bad cholesterol is only found in animal byproducts. This same bad cholesterol is which attaches to the artery walls and causes heart attacks and strokes, the biggest cause of death in America. You could lose 25 pounds in a month on a raw food diet just as well and your body becomes healthier not toxic as in the Atkins Diet. if you get some pH strips and check your pH level will find your body has become acidic. People are alkaline by nature and should maintain a 7.0 alkalinity rating.
@WhiteTreeProd With a genetic heart problem? Not likely…
My own heart risk factors have dropped dramatically. Cholesterol, triglycerides, resting heart rate, blood pressure, and calcium build up are all much better, and my doctor could not be happier. As for cancer, sure — that’s why they treat some cancers with low carb diet.
Sheesh, I am all for educating the less informed, but some days the hurdle seems pretty high.
You will all end up with Heart problems just like Atkins himself. (he tried to hide his medical records) Look what happened to Bill Clinton after he went on his south Beach diet. A higher percentage of getting cancer down the road too. No wonder Health Insurance rates are so high these days!

I went to the doctor after being on atkins for a few months and I was a lot healthier than the average person
Just had results from a blood test… Now my A1C is within normal range also… Chicken, fish, beef, cream cheese, turkey, eggs, a few Atkins shakes, bacon and about 20-50 carbs a day, no more. An amazing diet, I hope the vegan, yuppie, libs don’t start taxing meat and cheese next. The main street media does not have a clue about ANYTHING!!!
@mikepiazza Simply fantastic. I don’t see how anyone can argue when we have such success stories like yours.
Been on Atkins for a little over 3 months, lost 30 pounds…cholesterol now normal…Triglycerides now normal…Lost 3 points off my A1C, still a bit hi but coming down!… Diabetic doctor loves the Atkins diet!
@Forsure3333 And last week, I lost 8 pounds in 5 days… Pretty much all I’ve been eating is fish, chicken, almonds, peanuts, and pumpkin seeds. I am now at 172. My goal is about 165. I think I can get down to 168 within a week. I theorize that it will be the end of the water loss. One day, I had to tell myself: “As few carbs as possible as long as the weight goes down.” At 168 will really start the battle to lose the fat.
I lost like 25 pounds in 45 days. That’s definitely water loss.According to the False Diet Diet book, it is because that when you eat that is not healthy for you, the body retains a lot of water to fight off that food that it considers more like a poison. When you stop eating that food, the body releases that water it no longer needs.
No for brain washed attitude thinking. Saturated fats are very essential and all animal fats contain both saturated and unsaturated fats. I believe we need to consume as least 50% of our dietary fats as saturated fats for the following reason 1st; calcium and mineral absorption 2nd; our cell membrane consists of primarily saturated fats 3rd; it won’t oxidize in our body and does not cause atherosclerosis .
